The argument is over. Climate change is very real. It is happening and every individual – and organisation – has a collective responsibility to do everything possible to curb its rapid onset. While politicians have not yet come together on how to effectively address this change, increasingly businesses are taking the lead to do their part.
Written for a UK readership, this white paper nonetheless will appeal to anyone interested in climate change and how conferencing and collaboration can impact efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Sponsored by MeetingZone, the white paper provides a primer on the issues surrounding climate change, discusses ISO 14001 certification and the Kyoto Protocol, and explores how organizations can address greenhouse gas reduction through responsible adoption of conferencing and collaboration.
The paper also includes survey results from more than 225 European-based users of conferencing. More than half (56%) of those surveyed indicate concerns about climate change are influencing adoption, and 28% of organizations surveyed have some type of carbon emissions policy. Only 7% actually quantify the impact of conferencing technologies. A slightly higher number have telework initiatives that factor conferencing technologies. This suggests that understanding how to fit conferencing technologies into carbon emission reduction programs is at an early stage, with much work to be done and consequent considerable benefits to be realized. |
